How to make Nigerian Crispy Fried Chicken.

Crispy fried Chicken all the way from America has slowly crept into the Nigerian culinary scene and the fast food restaurants are not slowing down. 70% or more of Nigerian eateries now serve this side dish.

This simply show that Nigerians love, love, love, crispy fried chicken. You don’t have to enjoy it only in restaurants you can easily make it at home to enjoy with other main dishes. The spices and herbs used for this recipe are readily available in your local Nigerian shops, although this recipe may vary from country to country. This was prepared Nigerian style.

Serves: 4-6
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 30-40 minutes
Total time: 40-50 minutes
Meal type: Side dish, Snack
Misc.: Serve hot

Ingredients:

1 whole chicken
1 tbsp of curry powder
1/2 tsp of dried thyme
1 tbsp of garlic powder or 4 cloves of garlic (crushed)
1 tsp of ginger powder or 1cm of ginger root (crushed)
2-3 eggs
2 cups of water
Seasoning cubes
1 medium sized onion (sliced)
1-2 cups of bread crumbs (click on – How to make bread crumbs)
Salt to taste
Vegetable oil for deep frying

Optional:

Grinded dried chilli pepper or black pepper (to spice up the bread crumbs)

Preparation:

Step 1:

Add the ginger, garlic, onion, curry, thyme, seasoning cubes, salt and water to the washed chicken and boil till cooked. Drain on a serviette to dry it up.

Step 2:

Whisk the eggs in a dish and dip in the cooked chicken. Then coat it evenly with the bread crumbs mixed with a pinch of salt and spices.

Step 3:

Fry in hot oil and drain on a paper napkin. Serve immediately or save it up to snack on later.

Serve with all rice dishes and with chips.

      You can choose not to boil the chicken…it’s equally nice. This recipe is Nigerian style. We love to spice and boil meat. 🙂
